Koh Phi Phi
Our first stop was Koh Phi Phi, and getting there from Phuket was very easy. You can take the ferry or speed boat from Rassada Pier to Tonsai Pier, it takes approx. 2 hours. Koh Phi Phi is such a beautiful island and if you choose wisely you can find some beautiful, deserted beaches. There are 3 modes of transport in Koh Phi Phi, either by foot, by bicycle or by long tail boat. We wanted to stay away from the crowd but still have the opportunity to blend with them when possible. Therefore we choose to stay at the Outrigger Resort & Spa.
The Outrigger Resort & Spa
This place is beautiful and a good choice if you are seeking peace and serenity. The bungalows are very nice with a wooden interior and a small terrace to relax on. They have different type of restaurants (thai, western etc.), a small café and unlimited choices at breakfast. You can either spend the day at the pool, at the beach or simply walking around the green areas of the resort. I would say its the perfect place for honeymooners, couples or people looking for a calm place, good service and a beautiful environment. It's also children-friendly. Behind the resort there is a small village with few shops, restaurants and bars; a nice change when you get tired of spending time at the resort.
If you are the active type and want to explore, see around, meet people then this place might not be your perfect choice. It is quite isolated and you need to take a long tail boat in order to arrive to Tonsai Bay, where all the action takes place. Depending on the tides it can affect your journey to the main village and you might be stranded on the resort.
Tonsai Bay is a hive of activities from morning to night. It's where all the major shops, restaurants, and bars are located. You can pretty much find anything you need in this compact area. After eating Thai food everyday, we got a bit tired of it and decided to switch back to some western cuisine. Try Unni's, the owners are Swedish, but they don't serve Scandinavian food (thank god!). It's a very laid back atmosphere and the prices are very good.
Maya Adventure Tour
We booked the tour at the small village behind the resort, but it is available almost anywhere on the island. This tour is fantastic and a must do when in Koh Phi Phi. You get the chance to bathe in crystal clear water, snorkel in a blue lagoon, have lunch on a white sand beach overlooking a breathtaking view and explore the hidden places of the island. My favorite stop was Monkey Beach, the sand is as light as flour and the water clear blue. I'll let the pictures below speak for themselves.
Note: Maya bay is where the movie ”The Beach” was shot, and therefore filled with crazy tourist, ask your guide to avoid going there and to take you to the small deserted beach right in front of it.
Unfortunately I cannot cover everything, so if you have any specific questions or things you want to know don't hesitate to contact me and I'll tell you much more :)
